My dad and I at my induction into Omicron Delta Kappa at Elon.

In my brief educational and professional career, I have accomplished more than I could have hoped. I graduated with honors and a degree in journalism from Elon University. I also minored in French and political science while at Elon. Right now, I am attending graduate school at the University of Memphis, where I am also a graduate assistant working for the Newspaper Research Journal. I will earn my master's degree in May of this year.

I have worked professionally as a freelancer for the Burlington (N.C.) Times-News and the Memphis Commercial Appeal. While in Burlington, I covered the gamut of sporting events, from professional football to professional hockey to high school sports. I also tried my hand at news stories for the Times-News.

While in Memphis, the Commercial Appeal has assigned me mostly preps stories. I have been used extensively as a sports feature writer because the editors in charge feel my talents are better suited to more involved and engaging work, rather than simple game stories. I also worked for the CA's Bartlett/Cordova office in the summer, where I wrote several features and news/features pieces.

I have augmented my educational experience by registering for Web design classes because, as the traditional print format moves online, I had to ensure that I had the requisite online proficiency. I have developed competency with programs such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Flash.
